How to read compatibility results
Steam Frame Standalone Verified evaluates the out-of-box experience when a game runs on the headset. Default graphics must perform well, text and interface elements must be legible, and the default controller configuration must work with the Steam Frame Controllers. The same criteria apply to VR and non-VR games.
For a locally running 2D game, the published performance requirement is at least 30 fps at 1280x720 during normal play.
For a locally running VR game, the published performance requirement is at least 72 fps at 1728x1728 during normal play.
A VR game running below 1440x1440 receives an Unsupported badge. SteamVR also includes a Performance Assessment Overlay for evaluating performance.
A compatibility review changes how a game is presented, not whether customers can access it on Steam Frame. The review covers locally installed 2D and VR games, not games running on a PC and streamed to the headset.
Games streamed from a gaming PC through the dedicated 6GHz wireless dongle are exempt from standalone certification because their performance depends on the PC rather than the headset.
Local installation and PC streaming
- What does Standalone Verified test for local games?
- It checks default-configuration performance, interface and text legibility, and support for the default Steam Frame controller configuration on both VR and non-VR games.
- Does the standalone compatibility result apply when I stream from a PC?
- No. Standalone compatibility covers games running locally on the headset. A game streamed through the dedicated 6GHz wireless dongle is exempt because its performance depends on the gaming PC.
